My Passion & Calling. To Be a Missionary

Hello! My name is Hanani, and this is my story of how I was called to missionary work. It has been a long journey of learning and confirmation, which began when my parents became involved in a foundation that provided medical aid to different areas of Mexico.

About me, Hanani

Who am I?

Hello, my name is Hanani Barrera. I was born on October 17, 2006, in San Juan del Río, Querétaro, Mexico. I am 19 years old and was raised in a Christian home. Since I was little, I have been involved in missions, committed to serving and helping others. Being an only child, I have been involved in various activities, one of which was missions. I grew up understanding that helping others is not just an action, but a way of life and a way of representing the kingdom. It is also a way of representing God's love to others.

My interests and skills

I consider myself a focused, committed, and responsible person with a heart willing to serve God. I enjoy supporting those around me in any way I can, I am willing to learn, and one of my personal values is to respect and obey my leaders because obedience always brings blessings. One of my strengths is creativity, as well as improvising and adapting when things get challenging, something I consider to be an integral part of service and missions.

My hobbies include reading, listening to classical music, and painting, which I consider to be activities that help me develop my patience, creativity, and vision. In my free time, I like to cook for people, learn new things, write, and spend time with my family. I believe that even in small moments or details, there is also a way to love and serve. On the other hand, I love learning new things and growing both spiritually and personally. Some fun facts about me are that I have many hobbies and am always learning something new, my favorite colors are black and purple, and I enjoy sour and spicy sweets. My favorite food will always be tacos, and my favorite snack is Goldfish crackers. These are some of my favorite things that are part of who I am and how I connect with people.

My call to missions

My passion and calling to be a missionary has been a long journey of learning and confirmation. It all began when my parents became involved in a foundation that provided medical aid to different areas of Mexico. As their only daughter, they involved me in these missionary trips, instilling in me a sensitive and merciful heart. Over the years, those trips ceased to be mere experiences and became something of personal conviction. While we were traveling on missions, my parents decided that I should be homeschooled so that I would have more freedom to go and support them. So, with that said, I have been homeschooled for 10 years and am currently studying online for a Bachelor's Degree in Human Knowledge Sciences, so that I can be 100% committed to being a missionary. Although it has been a long road of making decisions, I know that this decision to be a full-time missionary is something that comes from God, and now I can see that it has been my calling since childhood.

What has inspired me to become a missionary is that everyone needs to hear the good news of Jesus Christ and also to know that God can use people like me to bring and share His love, hope, and restoration. Now I recognize that I am a tool for His kingdom, and my only desire is to live in obedience and be guided by His voice so that He can use me wherever He needs me.
